CALLING ALL ARTISTS
JURYING PROCESS FOR THE COLDWATER AND AREA STUDIO TOUR
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15TH 2014
www.coldwaterstudiotour.org
The Coldwater and Area Studio tour showcases the work of local and guest artisans & artists. We offer a diverse selection of work such as painting, jewelry, glass and metal work, photography, pottery, fibre art, and woodworking in studios, workshops and historic buildings in the lovely agricultural surroundings of Coldwater and the adjoining shores of Georgian Bay.
The 2014 tour will be held June 21st and 22nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Involvement in preparations for our big weekend is the mainstay of our tour and members are encouraged to take an active part through volunteering with brochure distribution, signing committee, advertising committee, chairing a committee or helping with the many tasks needed to pull off a great event. New members will be informed of upcoming meetings and the status of our tour through email notices.
New applicants will be juried by a team of standing members. Acceptance will be based not only on the quality of submitted work but on originality of medium, technique or theme as well as other considerations which benefit the tour as a whole. Candidates will be notified by January 25th of their acceptance or decline. Those declined will receive a letter of regret and their full submission fee with directions for reclaiming your work. Those who are accepted will be asked to join a committee, if they wish to receive a $75 rebate on their fee.
APPLYING ARTISTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING BETWEEN DECEMBER 15, 2013 & JANUARY 15, 2014
TO: jury@coldwaterstudiotour.com PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTION CAREFULLY AS INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Step 1: CONTACT INFORMATION: Please include:
NAME
STUDIO NAME (if applicable)
ADDRESS
PHONE NUMBER(S)
EMAIL ADDRESS(S)
WEBSITE/SOCIAL MEDIA
You will receive a return email with your Jury I.D Number, directions on where to deliver your work, portfolio and cheque by Wednesday, January 15th, 2014.
Step 2: You may email the following information or include a hard copy of the following with sample artwork:
1) BIOGRAPHY: Usually written in third person, your biography is like your resume in paragraph form. It’s a chance to share your experience and accomplishments, your art education and who influenced you. This should also include a statement indicating why you should be included on the Coldwater and Area Studio Tour. (1-3 pages)
2) ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
This is about your art or craftsmanship rather than you. Let us know what medium(s) you work in and why. What direction the artwork is taking, your philosophy, materials and techniques, artistic styles which influence your work.
3) BROCHURE AND WEBSITE SUBMISSIONS: To facilitate the smooth integration of new members, candidates must submit 2 square photos (500kb - 2Mb) that can be used in the CAST brochure. Rectangular photos will be cropped to fit the brochure format. The brochure also requires a short (2-3 sentence) write up. The website offers a page dedicated to the artist and you are free to submit a more comprehensive write up and photos to advertise your work. 4) A FEW QUESTIONS To better organize tour locations for new members, please answer the following:
Do you wish to be located in your own studio for the tour?
If so would you be interested in having a guest artist?
If you have no studio would you like to be a guest artist at another artist’s studio?
THREE SAMPLES OF WORK:
Actual samples of work are required so that jurors can determine the quality of the work which photographs don’t always show. This can include aspects such as whether pieces are well constructed and not using commercial “kit” materials, and whether paintings/photographs are properly framed in a professional manner. Additional photographic examples may be included particularly where size is a factor.
NOTE: All artwork submitted will be handled with the utmost respect and care, however, the Coldwater and Area Tour and individual members will not be held responsible for any loss or damage. It is the responsibility of each artist to provide their own liability and other insurances that would cover their site and their art pieces before and during the Coldwater and Area Studio Tour.
5) CHEQUE: payable to the Coldwater and Area Studio Tour in the amount of $250. A reimbursement of $75 will be given to those volunteering (ex. signing, brochure distribution, and advertising) Applications submitted without a cheque will not be considered. Please do not enclose cash.
IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED
The Coldwater and Area Tour procedures:
All work exhibited must be the original work or limited edition prints belonging only to the applicant. No manufactured wares are allowed, with the exception of greeting cards, calendars, books or videos. Registration for art lessons is allowed.
Artist or artisan must be present him or herself throughout hours of the tour and must act in a professional manner toward guests and fellow artists that represents the Coldwater Studio Tour in a positive light.
All participants will post signage at their site and distribute brochures.
All participants will advertise the tour to their own client/contact list.
The standard of work shown during the tour is expected to be the same as that which was juried. Changes in medium or discipline must be juried separately.
Many visitors will be visiting our sites, so you must ensure that you are able to create the volume of work required.
All participants are expected to volunteer unless they have opted to pay the $250.00 fee.
We, the jury committee, look forward to the privilege of reviewing your work and making a decision that is conducive to the participating members of the Coldwater & Area Studio Tour 2013.

OFAA 2013 Christmas Potluck
What a blast we all had last night! Approximately 52 people came to the dinner, brought food , mingled laughed hilariously at our entertainment "The Medicine Show!" and then happily parted ways for the holiday season with echos of "Merry Christmas" filtering down the stairs and out the doors of OMAH. Thank you to everyone for coming and to the team that put on this great night. The room was beautifully decorated and the night went by far too fast.
