Barr Gilmore appointed head of Integrated Design at Haliburton School of The Arts Haliburton School of The Arts at Fleming College is pleased to announce the appointment of Barr Gilmore as a Professor and Coordinator of the new Integrated Design program. BARR GILMORE (RCA, MDes) has been a graphic, environmental graphic and industrial designer under his company name Barr Gilmore Art + Design since 2005 with such clients as Gagosian Gallery, Art Gallery of Alberta, Art Gallery of York University, Alberta College of Art and Design, MoCCA, TIFF Bell Lightbox, Scotiabank Photography Award, Design Exchange and Gardiner Museum, among others. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture and printmaking from UBC, Vancouver (1987); was the Production Manager and Studio Assistant to the renowned Canadian art collective General Idea (1991-95); and a Senior Design Associate at Bruce Mau Design (1996-2005). In 2011, he completed Master of Design in the Interdisciplinary Masters in Art, Media and Design graduate program at OCADU, Toronto for which he won the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal. His book and exhibition designs have won numerous awards and in 2009, he was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts for his graphic design work. DESIGN YOUR FUTURE. This one-of-a-kind, accelerated diploma program incorporates a hands-on approach to material culture, sustainability and fine craftsmanship. Bistro 179 NEWS

Bistro 179 The end of March will be the OFAA’s final exhibit at Bistro 179. We have been very fortunate to have this site for several years. So, this decision was made with a great deal of consideration for the betterment of the entire membership. When work is selling at other venues and not this one, it is imperative to step back and assess the situation. It simply doesn't work for us anymore. With the fee charged for every show we are loosing money and our artists are not gaining recognition. The tentative date is March 26th at 3 pm. All artists currently showing at Bistro 179 will be notified with a confirmed date and time. We do support members who wish to exhibit at Bistro 179 to contact Anthony. And make arrangements as an independent artist, not under the umbrella of the OFAA. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Warmly Shimera

Starry Night

Hello Fellow OFAA Members

2014 is the 10th Anniversary of Starry Night!

OFAA has been a dedicated participant and part of the organizing team for many years.

How could we make this anniversary a very special year?

Each year about 1000 people attend over 20 venues to enjoy the amazing Orillia Arts community.  Last year we closed off Mississaga St. for the first time.  This allowed both the art community and our visitors to enjoy a relaxing and friendly evening strolling along while visiting the shops, restaurants, galleries and the music stage.  What could we do this year to make it even better? 

We are also working on an artsVest grant, which matches sponsorship dollars from the business community to enhance our marketing and promotions ability.  If you know of any business (small or large) that might be interested in developing a partnership with the arts community, let me know right away, as our deadline for submission is drawing near.

Get your creative brains going, and let's see what we can create. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them and share them with the committee.   Send me an email or call me at 705 259-0407. We will be discussing this soon at the OFAA General Meeting with the hopes of generating some creative ideas of how we can make this year really spectacular.
